Kōrero O Te 'Ōrau is an environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) incorporated in 2017, consisting of Cook Islanders who are passionate about protecting the culture, environment and natural resources of the nation.

Kōrero o te 'Ōrau translates to knowledge of the land, sky and sea. Our name reflects our commitment to preserving our natural environment. In all our endeavours, we carry this profound connection, immersing ourselves in these sacred spaces.

From the vast expanse of the sky to the depths of the ocean, we recognise and embrace our responsibility as indigenous guardians. It is our calling to continually learn about, respect and protect these environments that define our cultural heritage.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

In 2017, a group of like-minded Cook Islanders came together in response to the pressing issues in their nation, particularly in the environmental and indigenous sectors. Recognising the urgent need for change, they founded Kōrero o te Ōrau, a local environmental NGO dedicated to addressing these challenges and advocating for the rights and well-being of their community. Their collective vision and dedication to continue to drive a meaningful progress and foster a brighter future for all indigenous people. Learn more in the video below.
